The Book"
A migrainiac’s journey.” That’s what I wanted to call my blog. So why didn’t I? Because I don’t want to in any way contribute to the misconceptions and stereotypes of migraine disease and the millions of people who have it. Migraine is not psychological. It is a physical, neurobiological disease. Those of us who live with migraine are just like people who live with epilepsy, diabetes, Parkinson’s or any other major disease or disorder. Another reason is that I wanted this blog to also be about other aspects of LIFE, the larger journey we share.
Last year I compiled, edited and published the book, Migraine Expressions: A Creative Journey through Life with Migraine to try and help dispel the myths of migraine via the words and art of people who live with it.
But I, personally, am a migrainiac (thanks to Ingrid in Sweden for introducing that term to me!) in the sense that I am crazy to find and wrap my brain around migrainia – all things migraine-related. I have been a migrainiac for 40 years in my quest to discover the most I can and best manage my life all these years.
I thank my sister, Donna, for my subtitle’s concept word, mindbloggering, which is a tongue stumble between blogging and mind-boggling that gave us a good laugh. It’s appropriate because this blog will be about many topics in addition to migraine and my shameless efforts to further promote Migraine Expressions.
Please join me on this journey so we can travel together and share the view from all directions!

Your blog is looking awesome!
nice site Betsy – love the clean layout and your masthead is a really nice design!!
cheers on your launch
Fabulous articles!
I always mention the book and the disease to anyone who will listen. I still run into doctors who say migraines are not diseases, and pass out imitrex like candy.
I had a migraine last month, forgot to take my 5htp, 200 mgs the day before and got one. Lasted about 10 minutes, popped in my own over the counter meds, 5htp, and felt better asap.
Serotonin or Griffonia Seeds.
I take this for migraines and also for helping me curb my appetite for carbs and sugar. As a type 2 diabetic, 5htp helps a lot.
Its my hope that people who have migraines can find a cure for migraine snigs(sneaky nasty incident gripping sanity)..
Hi, Heather! I don’t know how I missed responding to you – sorry!
Are you saying the 5htp is serotonin or Griffonia Seeds? And if not, what form or how do you get it?
Hope you’re well now and that you have a great weekend!
Nice work, Betsy.
Thanks, Mark! How’s your book coming?
Congratulations on the recognition for your fabulous book, Betsy. I don’t know where I’ve been, but I just discovered your blog today! I’m so glad I did and can add it to my blog roll.
Diana
Hi, Diana! Thanks – I’ve been meaning to send you an e-mail, and I’ll add your blog here, too. I hope to get that done this weekend!
Hope you’re doing well, and have a good weekend!
Thank you for this website. I don’t feel so alone in my quest to find more answers regarding my migraines anymore. I feel like we know so little about migraines, because some people just write it off as a “bad headache.” But a migraine is packed with so many other symptoms that it’s not just a “headache.” We need to spread the awareness that a migraine is not just a headache, it is a condition; a condition that comes with various symptoms and needs a specific diet, etc., to control it just as with other diseases.
Thanks so much, Aly! I can’t say how much it helped me after so many years of being basically alone in my migraine world to find an online community of support!
And thanks for helping to spread awareness and understanding of migraine in whatever ways you can.
There is so much ‘bad press’ for migraine, we need all the real info distribution we can get.
Best wishes always and feel free to contact me anytime!
